Elisabeth Lees has recently featured in The Money Laundering Bulletin, where she has shared her expertise on the risks associated with Dominica’s golden passport scheme. In her comments, Elisabeth highlighted that these types of programmes are at risk of exploitation due the “speed with one can get a passport” and that “risks include the laundering of funds that were already proceeds of crime before citizenship was granted, using such proceeds to buy citizenship, and using citizenship to set up a company through which to launder funds because you now have access to the new financial markets”. Her insights contribute to the ongoing conversations about transparency and compliance in citizenship by investment initiatives.
